Help please

how i put more bots in teh game? all the maps have only 3 bots, its too boring i need teams with minimal 5 aliens!

You need to know the name of the bot you wish to add. Here is a list of all bots included with version 7.30 (Alien Arena 2009) :

For reference, if you run Linux you can generate that list at any time with these commands (in the BASH command line, not in the game console):

cd ~/alienarena/botinfo
ls -1 *.cfg | sed "s/.cfg//g"
And I'm sure there are equivalent commands to do this in the Windows command prompt.

You can then add a bot with
Code:
sv addbot name_of_bot
. You need to do this once per match.


If you don't feel like using the console--

Go to "host server" in the main menu. All settings, including the bots and the default map rotation, are the same as in the standard instant action game. However, here you can customize your desired rules. Go to "deathmatch and bot flags," select one of the empty slots, and add a bot.

HOWEVER I think this only works for whatever starting map you pick. (Not sure though.)

It is possible to put the sv addbot <botname> commands in a .cfg file in the arena subdirectory (where config.cfg is located). Then in the console do:

exec <filename>.cfg


For instance, for testing I have file called lotsbots.cfg, that looks like this:

sv addbot martian-one martianenforcer/default
sv addbot slashbot-one slashbot/default
sv addbot enforcer-one enforcer/default
sv addbot lauren-one lauren/default
sv addbot cyborg-one martiancyborg/default
sv addbot martian-two martianenforcer/gamara
sv addbot slashbot-two slashbot/blue
sv addbot enforcer-two enforcer/red
sv addbot lauren-two lauren/blue
sv addbot cyborg-two martiancyborg/blue


The skins part is optional. And you probably want to use bot names from maxtothemax's excellent list, instead of those generic names. Make sure the maxclients cvar, or the Max Players setting in the Host Server menu is set high enough to allow the number of bots you want.

when you start crx, there is an option named 'host a server'.
go in there and look for 'bots and flags'.
there you can easily pick more bots. maxtothemax' list is there
allready.

but maybe you'd like to join and play against real people?
in galaxy you can join the chat. there are allways folks around that like a good match.
btw you could use a chatclient like icechat or kvirk instead too.

What about linux? is there a linux chat client for AA or do I have to go trolling around for players on IRC as its awfully slow these days in AA :(

Alien Arena's chatroom is an IRC room. I personally use Gnome-Xchat but there are loads of IRC clients for Linux.

You can use the FUSE browser, that runs in Linux and Windows, and comes with AA.

I think the easiest way to add bots is to go to console and type:

bind u "sv addbot name martianenforcer/default"

Go back into game and press u to add as many bots as you like!
